Description of Bioflavonoids with C

Found in the white interior of citrus peels and other vitamin C rich fruits, bioflavonoids or vitamin P are compounds that aid in the body's use of vitamin C by inhibiting its breakdown. Ordinarily, people who maintain a healthy diet do not need additional bioflavonoids, however, persons suffering from abnormal bleeding as a result of diabetes, nosebleeds, menorrhagia and bleeding gums can benefit from increased benefits of vitamin C. Additionally, people with circulatory problems, including heart disease, bruising and varicose veins can benefit from bioflavonoids. It is believed that bioflavonoids boost the body's immune system and can limit histamine reactions, as a result they may be prescribed to treat allergies. Also, bioflavonoids have been used to improve nearsightedness, night vision, prevent eye disorders, alleviate asthma, and prevent abnormal bruising, and inflammation. Bioflavonoids can be found in supplements or naturally in citrus fruits, grapes, blueberries and other fruits and vegetables. It is important that persons with and blood disorder including a blood clotting disorder not take bioflavonoids. As with all medications, pregnant or nursing women should consult a doctor before taking. Possible side effects include diarrhea.
