Description of bee pollen

Bee Pollen is popular among athletes and others who wish to increase energy and physical endurance. Other benefits include relief from stress, fatigue, and depression. Also, bee pollen is sometimes used as an aid to weight loss. Available in either capsule form or by injection, bee pollen has germ killing capabilities and has often been used to treat illnesses such as heart problems, cancer, arthritis and bowel disorders. Bee pollen is a controversial remedy since its benefits have never been proven in scientific studies. It is recommended that dosage begin gradually and increase slowly to decrease the chances of allergic reaction or side effect. Bee Pollen is derived from flowering plants and can be harvested without the actual aid of bees, an important distinction for those allergic to bee stings. It should generally be avoided by persons allergic to bee stings and those who suffer seasonal airborne pollen allergies. In addition, pregnant or nursing women should avoid bee pollen as well as young children and anyone with gout or kidney disease. Possible side effects include, itching, rash or swelling and in rare cases anaphylactic shock (a severe allergic reaction that includes poor breathing, swelling, lowered blood pressure and loss of consciousness).
