Description of coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q-10 or ubiquinone regulates the energy in the mitochondria in the individual cells in our body. The result is that this supplement effects our overall energy levels. The heart is the greatest recipient of coenzyme Q-10's many benefits including, preventing heart failure, repairing irregular heart beats, lowering blood pressure, treating mitral-valve prolapse, relieving angina and may actually reverse gum disease and act as an antioxidant. It has also been observed that coenzyme Q-10 diminishes with age and as a result it has been used to combat the aging process. Our bodies produce coenzyme Q-10 but eating diet that includes fish, beef, organ meats, peanuts, tofu and vegetables can help boost levels. There are no known side effects to taking the daily dose of 30 to 60 milligrams daily, however, diarrhea and upset stomach has been reported in subjects who take extremely high doses. Heart patients may wish to consult a doctor for a recommended dose. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use coenzyme Q-10.
